The FSD N800 is the first of sixteen patrol boats to join the Carabinieri fleet, for deployment on public safety and security operations and to patrol coastal and territorial waters.
The new FSD N800 patrol boats have a new generation hybrid propulsion system with zero emissions and total respect for the environment.
Genoa, October 1, 2020 – The first FSD N800 patrol boat was presented and delivered to the Italian Carabinieri today at a ceremony on the opening day of the Genoa International Boat Show.
The first of sixteen FSD N800 offshore patrol boats was delivered to Italy’s Carabinieri military police force at a ceremony attended by General Claudio Vincelli, “Pastrengo” Carabinieri Interregional Commander, and Alberto Galassi, Ferretti Group CEO, with Giuliano Felten, Ferretti Security Division Director.
The contract for the sixteen FSD N800 offshore patrol boats was awarded to FSD - Ferretti Security Division, the Ferretti Group Business Unit that specialises in the Security sector - in a competitive tendering process to renew the fleet assigned to sixteen Carabinieri naval sites.
The new FSD N800 units have a length of 16.75 meters, a beam of 4.43 meters and a draft of 1.57 meters, with a hull made from composite material consisting of glass fiber and carbon fiber. The new units can be powered by a new concept hybrid Transfluid diesel/electric engine, integrated with the onboard systems by Ferretti’s engineers for zero-emission operation.
The outstanding combination of innovative technology and skilful design significantly reduces consumption and environmental impact, safeguarding the marine ecosystem at the same time as delivering extraordinary performance in terms of speed and handling.
“This is a magnificent day for FSD: I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the Carabinieri for choosing vessels that incorporate the best technology on the market and are friendly to the environment. FSD’s patrol boats deliver outstanding efficiency across the board for security and patrol missions. This is yet another recognition of the excellence of products designed and built entirely in Italy,” said Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi. “The new FSD N800 is a remarkable synthesis of design skill, manufacturing know-how and cutting edge technology.”
The new FSD N800 units, which will be deployed on patrol missions to ensure the security and protection of Italian marine areas, are the very first large patrol boats in Europe to make use of innovative Transfluid hybrid propulsion technology, meaning they are fully operational even in areas protected by the most stringent environmental protection regulations.
