On the occasion of the Privilege Days - an exclusive event dedicated to Ferretti Yachts owners, celebrating in 2008 the 40th anniversary of the yard's foundation - Ferretti Yachts presents the world premier of the Altura 840 project.
The new model was conceived an evolution of the legendary Altura line, offering lovers of sailing a new way of "Essere Ferretti", experiencing the sea with all the comforts of an exclusive villa without any compromise and enjoying the design, quality and technology of Ferretti yachts.
The Altura 840 marks an evolution and renewal for the yard, extending the historic series born in the mid-1970s with Altura 42 - a fibreglass motorsailer inspired by the principles of light, comfort and safety. This was followed in the 1980s by the Altura 46 and Altura 49, "pioneer" models that opened up an age of motoryachting with cutting edge innovation.
After the 2005 launch of the Altura 690, a 21 metre yacht combining the Altura philosophy with innovative Ferretti Group technology, and with the Altura 840, the yard has now completed an important stage in the evolution of the line. Designed by the Studio Zuccon International Project in collaboration with theAYT - the Ferretti Group Engineering Division - Altura 840 now stands alongside Altura 690, which provided the inspiration behind the design project, as an extremely comfortable yacht with generous, welcoming spaces and the most advanced technology, complemented by finishings with a nautical feel, including an extensive use of wood.
"Altura 840 embodies a perfect synthesis between the concept of an aft-cabin motoryacht, with the master cabin aft, conceived for medium and long range cruising, and the flying bridge" - explains Marco Segato, Vice President Sales Ferretti Yachts - "based on a design solution that allows no compromises on the high quality, technology, comfort and design typical of Ferretti yachts. We have great commercial expectations for this model, not just in the "enlarged" Europe that now includes Russia and Turkey, but also for North America and northern Europe. Our aim", continues Marco Segato, "is to conquer a share of "mature" owners with nautical experience who are seeking a totally unique product, one that allows them to experience the sea for medium-long periods together with family and friends. Once again Ferretti Yachts is proud to affirm a maxim of its founder and President Norberto Ferretti: "Boats to be used and not to be shown".
ALTURA 840 details
MAIN DECK
Cockpit-Salon
Step on board and the cockpit, teak-panelled like all the exterior flooring, immediately reveals the attention devoted to maximising space for social interaction - a large rectangular table in teak, a fixed bench and three armchairs can accommodate up to eight guests. Stairs from the cockpit give access to the spoiler and flybridge. A sliding door in tempered, darkened glass leads into the roomy salon. Immediately starboard is the stairway to the master cabin. The interiors, as elsewhere, are in teak, and the walls are entirely panelled in boiserie, with light coloured fabric for the upper sections. The salon is flooded with light from the two large rectangular windows, and includes a living area intended for total relaxation. To starboard is a divan with bar table, armchair and two coffee tables, one of which is central. This section leads into a working zone with extendable desk and armchair. Opposite are two comfy armchairs with a low unit concealing the 32" pop-up TV. The two chairs can also be moved near the divan to seat friends.
Helm console
Two steps up is the raised area for the helm console, to port, while to starboard lies a dinette/chart room with teak table and small divans for up to eight people. Maximum visibility at the helm is provided by the extensive windows, providing a 360° view. The doorway to the exterior and the crew area access stairway are on the starboard side, enabling crew to move around the boat without entering the salon and living area, ensuring maximum privacy for guests.
LOWER DECK
Galley-dining area
Remaining in the salon, two steps to starboard lead down into the covered section.
The dining area is to starboard, and enjoys the natural light provided by the large swing windows built into the hull. A roomy table formed by two breakfast bars, divans and chairs can accommodate up to eight guests. A sliding door separates the dining area from the professionally-equipped galley on the opposite side, with wood flooring, granite surfaces and ceramic hob. The galley also gives access to the crew quarters - two twin cabins and heads with separate shower - and the engine room between the crew area and master cabin.
Guest cabins
The sleeping accommodation for guests lies further forward, comprising a twin cabin, a twin cabin with L-shaped berth and the double VIP at bow cabin. Every cabin has a private bathroom with separate shower.
Master cabin
The most impressive area below decks on the Altura 840 is the owner' cabin aft. To create this kind of layout, the hull was planned in the design stage to provide greater internal volume and height, ensuring total privacy for the owner, with an area that is separated from the other accommodation and is also accessible from the salon. The master cabin is full beam, extremely spacious and full of light, thanks to the large side windows and wide window above the head of the bed, facing the spoiler and offering a stupendous view of the sea. The spaces are organised to create functional living solutions, with two walk-in wardrobes, a working area to starboard with retractable desk that can also be used for breakfast, and low teak furniture to increase the amount of light filling the interior. There is an en-suite owner' bathroom with twin washbasins and marble surfaces plus separate heads and showers with teak flooring.
EXTERIORS
Forward lounge
The exteriors of the Altura 690 also offer ample spaces that encourage open air living -the aft cockpit is complemented by another large lounge area forward with two large sunpads, plus a living area with a double divan and table with retractable parasol to provide shelter from the sun during the hottest time of day.
Flying bridge
The flying bridge is equipped with a hard top and sliding canopy to provide shade for the living area, which comprises a large U-shaped divan with a reclining sunpad further forward, extendable table, fridge and grill unit and a large sunpad aft. The pilot station is located on the left. The davit and tender are aft - once positioned on the aft platform the tender can be launched conveniently using an electro-hydraulic system, which also provides a roomy beach platform for easy access to the water.
INSTRUMENTATION †ENGINE ROOM AND POWER UNITS
In terms of comfort and speed, the Altura 840 offers characteristics that perfectly reflects the technology that' such an outstanding feature of the entire Ferretti Yachts fleet -two Mitsubishi ARG (Anti Rolling Gyro) stabilisers, standard equipment on the Altura 840, reduce roll by over 50 per cent. The Altura 840 is also provided with latest generation Naviop instrumentation, a cutting edge control system providing simple, immediate touch-screen monitoring and management of consumption, services and alarms. These solutions make it even easier for the crew to access on board systems, offering significant increases in comfort and safety.
The engine room is located amidships between the owner' cabin and crew quarters, for total comfort and greater privacy. Silence is also ensured by the intervening position of the fuel tanks. The excellent performance of the Altura 840 is provided by two MTU 12V 2000 units, giving a cruising speed of 27 knots and a top speed of 30,5 knots.
