The Other Side of the Wind: from sail to power, Wally debuts new yachts at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

2021年9月8日

Cannes, 8 September 2021 - Wally is out in force at the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival.
The brand new models and projects presented during the Ferretti Group press conference on the first day of the show reflect the frenetic pace of development across sail and power from the sector’s most innovative brand.
At the entrance to the show, visitors are greeted by the awe-inspiring spectacle of the 48wallytender. But that is just the start: exhibited on the water are the 43wallytender X and 48wallytender X. Topping the bill is the eagerly awaited WHY200 while the striking new 58wallypower and the sailing superyacht Wally110 projects were presented at the conference.

WHY200: THE GAME CHANGER

Wally’s first full-wide-body model once again pushes design boundaries.
With its wide body design, this 200 GT yacht offers far larger volumes compared to traditional motorboats, plus a living space and stability that are definitely the greatest of the market segment. It essentially provides all the advantages of a catamaran but has none of its limitations.
The innovative motor yacht combines the comfort and space of a much larger displacement yacht with the speed and performance of a semi-displacement boat. Measuring less than 24m loadline, the yacht is rewriting the rules to make volume the most important gauge of a yacht. The project was developed by Wally’s design team headed by Luca Bassani and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department, who worked with Laurent Giles NA Ltd for the naval architecture and Studio A. Vallicelli & Co for interior design.

The ‘Wow Bow’
In keeping with a design philosophy that aims to combine form and function with new and immersive yachting experiences, the WHY200 features a spectacular 4.7-metre high glazed bow to maximise seaworthiness like working explorer vessels. This houses a stunning 37sqm master suite that commands the sea with an uninterrupted 270-degree view of the horizon. The eye-catching upper deck has a futuristic glass-and-carbon dome and an extended, structural top with no supporting pillars.

Room to entertain
A spectacular one-piece laminated carbon staircase connects the three decks and makes bulkheads superfluous in the huge 50sqm open living area. On deck, the fold-down beach club bulwarks give access to the sea on three sides and expand the living area to 32sqm. In addition, WHY200 boasts two garages with a storage capacity never seen before on yachts of this size, able to accommodate a 4.15m jet tender, wave runner, Seabob, paddleboard and all manner of water toys. Positioned on either side, the garages permit a large walkway instead of the classic two narrow ones resulting from a garage to one side.

Speed and stability
The hull has been specifically developed for this semi-displacement yacht and tank tested to optimise efficiency while cutting through the waves with no slamming and minimal pitching, like all Wally hulls. The first unit is powered by four Volvo Penta D-13 IPS 1350 engines of 1000hp each, enabling the WHY200 to cruise at up to 23 knots while maintaining perfect horizontal trim and guest comfort on board. The wide beam combined with the zero-speed fin stabilisers and optional twin Seakeeper gyros ensure stability under way and at anchor.

58WALLYPOWER: EVOLUTION IN DESIGN
During the Ferretti Group press conference, the covers were lifted on the new 58wallypower project. This groundbreaking addition to the Wallypower line marks the start of the revamping of the iconic Wally range and will have its world debut at the Boot Düsseldorf show in January 2022.

As on the 118wallypower, the 58wallypower features pure lines dominated by the double chines in the hull and the air intakes. The yacht’s interior is bathed in natural light from overhead, meaning there is no need for traditional openings to port or starboard. The superstructure of the 58wallypower displays typical Wally DNA with its pillarless curved glass, broad side decks, and ample guest areas that are open to the surroundings but protected from the sun, wind and water.

Practical by nature
The cockpit set-up can be adjusted to suit a range of climates, while the adjustable aft deck sunpad offers multiple lounging options for up to four adults. Folding bulwark ‘wings’ increase entertaining space on the aft deck by a dramatic 25sqm, while a hydraulic aft platform provides easy access to the water as well as tender and water toy storage. Wally’s customary hydraulic passerelle is included as standard.

Adapted to your life at sea
Wally has created a social lower deck design on the 58wallypower that offers flexibility for up to four overnight guests. Layouts include the full-beam ‘double saloon’ and the ‘flexi-guest’ providing an additional guest cabin. A crew berth with ensuite facilities can be specified in lieu of this cabin.

Easy handling
The Volvo IPS propulsion system features proprietary joystick manoeuvring, dynamic positioning, and Assisted Docking software, with a choice of engine powers delivering a long range cruising speed of over 30 knots. Wally has chosen a triple configuration for shallow draft, while the ultra deep-V hull offers stability in even the roughest conditions.

WALLY SAIL: FLYING ON THE CREST OF A WAVE
Wally’s sailing heritage is legendary, and under Ferretti Group, the brand is redoubling its efforts on the sail side. Besides three thrilling new performance cruisers in the 100ft-plus category, construction is well under way on the fully custom Wally101, inspired by the Wallycento box-rule design.
The outer carbon skin of the Wally101 hull has been completed and cured. Completion of the hull is scheduled for the end of October. At the same time, bulkheads, the keel trunk and other structures are under construction, and the engineering of the auxiliary systems is in progress. The rig engineering is due to be shipped at the end of 2022, with the new yacht on schedule for delivery in May 2023.

It is just one of several projects of the Wally world. With a proud track record in carbon fibre technology, Wally is leveraging all its know-how to create a new line of technically superior performance cruisers. Extensive use of pre-preg carbon construction ensures that these boats will be powerful cruisers that can hold more than their own on the racecourse.

The first off the drawing board is the Wally110. Displaying all the hallmarks of Wally’s timeless style, the Wally110 is safe and comfortable, yet boasts a high performing pedigree. The raised saloon configuration and Terrace-on-the-sea concept maximise elegant living space, while the seductive lines signed judel/vrolijk & co., will deliver fast, comfortable passages and a turn of speed around the buoys.

The larger Wally130 and Wally150 are being developed to complete the visionary brand’s range of new supersailers. Custom features and a range of keel and equipment choices will be available. But all the boats will share one thing: Wally’s mastery of the most advanced technologies in construction, engineering and systems put to the service of a new generation of supremely capable boats.

“We at Wally are delighted to be able to present details of our new sailing range. Beautiful, innovative design is in our DNA, and all four boats presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival prove it once again. Under Ferretti Group, Wally is redoubling its efforts and focusing also on the sailing side, and the exquisite results of this will soon be cruising the world’s oceans and winning races,” says Stefano de Vivo, Wally Managing Director.

“Wally’s new sailing projects aim to reach new levels of cruising convenience, thanks to redesigned cockpit areas and interior. The 110 has great volumes thanks to a raised saloon, while the flush deck hides the cockpits that are recessed below the sheerline. These are three times bigger than traditional ones and also safer, due to their depth. The larger 130 and 150 boast extra features, such as the comfort of a sleek deckhouse, a private owner’s cockpit aft and ample tender storage,” says Luca Bassani, Wally Founder and Chief Designer.
