The over-26.5-metre overall length makes the most out of the onboard space from a large Ferretti yacht, on a hull that, being below 24 metres, is classified as a CE-class pleasure boat. The Ferretti Yachts 870 is one of the most successful crafts by the famous Italian brand, which currently boasts three distinct product lines (Yachts, Custom Line and Navetta). Less than two years after its debut at the 2012 Cannes boat show, this model - coming both in the roll bar version and, upon request, with a hard top - is now ploughing across Chinese waters for the first time and will celebrate its Asia-Pacific Première at the China Rendez-Vous 2014.
The Ferretti Yachts 870, which is once again the outcome of the close cooperation between Studio Zuccon International Project and AYT&D - Advanced Yacht Technology & Design (Ferretti Group’s research, design and product development centre), blends together some of the most widely appreciated characteristics and innovative design solutions of other models in the Ferretti Yachts range, such as the bronze-shade hard top above the pilot station(an element that can be found on the Ferretti Yachts 800, which made its debut in the Asia-Pacific in Xiamen, China, in November 2013) and large glazed surfaces along the main deck and the hull, at the height of the guest cabins, among the latter. More specifically, the two open view windows of the master stateroom are complemented with remarkably large glazing with opening portholes - a feature in the guest cabins and the VIP cabin as well - the final result being extraordinary interior brightness and breathtaking views over the sea. The glazing on the main deck, in particular, has been significantly extended and restyled relative to its predecessor: the gunwale has been lowered at the height of the dining area and extended up to the stern. This solution, normally found on much larger yachts, contributes to creating a sense of continuity in the yacht’s outer profile, which now looks longer and slimmer. The yacht in its entirety is characterized by a light and stylish character, also thanks to an element that distinguishes some Ferretti Yachts models: the three “shark gills” windows separating the salon glazing from the one at the height of the pilot station.
As is the case on all models in the range, the Ferretti Yachts 870 in addition to the range of décor options also features a new “Tai He Ban by Ferretti” special edition for clients in the Far East who desire a vessel primarily to host business meetings, official receptions, informal events and entertainment functions - this special edition draws inspiration from the famous Hall of Supreme Harmony, one of the most prestigious and luxurious palaces in Beijing’s Forbidden City, where the most important official ceremonies were held in the presence of the Emperor and his dignitaries of both Ming and Qing dynasties of China. A place that is the symbol of enduring values like prestige and power, harmony and balance - the same values that have always been part of the Ferretti brand’s DNA and which stem from the highest “Intelligenza Nautica Italiana”.
The model on display in Sanya comes in the traditional layout, the same of the first hull presented in 2012 at the Cannes boat show, while the décor features several custom elements, selected by the Owner and implemented thanks to the constant support of the Ferretti Group’s team of architects and designers.
Walnut stained natural oak wood has been extensively used onboard, including several furnishing details, like the bed bands and the solid wood parts of furniture, while polished walnut root has been chosen for curtain compartments and furniture tops. Throughout the yacht wood is combined with leather, for which the Owner has chosen a red shade for the sofa, the chairs in the dinette and the pilot seat on the main deck, as well as for the headboards, bed bands, sofas, poufs and TV column in the guest cabins, while the ceiling panels and the cabin walls are white.
“On the Ferretti Yachts 870 we have preserved all the strengths of its predecessor, the Ferretti 830, one of the best sellers in the brand's recent history - explains Leonardo Allasia, Ferretti's Global Brand Manager. At the same time, we have made the most of the new extended superstructure, which has allowed us to maximize the use of interior spaces in all the available layouts. In this way, all guests can enjoy the utmost comfort ensured by brilliant outfitting solutions on a more-than-26-metre yacht that boasts outstanding performances and extraordinary noiselessness and privacy”.
“The Asia-Pacific Première of the Ferretti Yachts 870 is taking place as the same time as the debut of the first Ferretti Yachts 690 in the ‘Tai He Ban by Ferretti’ special edition and of the line’s flagship, the Ferretti Yachts 960 - adds Alessandro Tirelli, Ferretti Group Asia-Pacific Sales Director. Each of these yachts stands out for several interior customised solutions, as regards both the layout and the décor - a perfect example of the highly diversified offer that the Ferretti brand can currently guarantee on the Asian market. Presenting this yacht at the China Rendez-Vous makes us really proud of our efforts and encourages us to take up new challenges in this strategic area”.
MAIN DECK
The increased length of the Ferretti Yachts 870 is already apparent in the spacious cockpit, which is here de facto converted into a large outdoor lounge where the Owners can relax together with their guests: besides the teak table seating up to eight people, a convenient bar unit has been installed to the left of the glazed door leading inside.
The salon has been arranged into a living area, a dining area, the galley and the pilot station. The latter two, located forward, are separated from the rest of the deck. The salon is a large open space where life at sea can be enjoyed in the utmost comfort. The large glazing along the two bulwarks ensures an incredible brightness, further enhancing this room’s uniquely charming atmosphere. To complement natural light, all interiors are fitted with a spotlight lighting system supplied by Cantalupi, an Italian firm specialized in high-end lighting fixtures and leader in the field. As regards the layout, a large L-shaped sofa with an armchair and a coffee table can be found on the port side; in front of it, on the right-hand side, stand two small armchairs separated by a small cabinet hosting a unit with the concealing TV. The dining area, on the left, is furnished with a “Mirror” glass dining table by Omnidecor and eight steel-frame leather chairs by Calligaris. A long uninterrupted cabinet runs along the starboard bulwark and contains a refrigerator/bottle rack and several compartments where bottles and other items can be conveniently stored. Another cupboard has been installed under the stairway leading to the flybridge, while an additional cabinet with doors between the sofa and the dining table ensures more storage room. The entire salon is fitted with an audio system supplied by Bang & Olufsen.
The area towards the bow has been arranged introducing some solutions that optimize the general layout as well as onboard circulation and increase privacy for all guests. On the starboard side is a lobby through which access can be easily gained to the pilot station, separated by a door, while a sliding door on the left-hand side is one of the three accessways to the galley. The day toilet and the staircase leading below deck can be found along the starboard bulwarks, after the stairs that take to the flybridge. The pilot station, located to starboard, benefits from maximum front and side visibility, and the captain only needs to open the door to the rear to get a clear and uninterrupted view of the stern. The pilot seat has outstanding ergonomic features and all onboard instruments are extremely user-friendly. On the right-hand side, behind the pilot station, there are numerous storage compartments and a tall cabinet where everything needed for navigation can be kept for immediate consultation. Left of the pilot station, a dinette with a large L-shaped sofa and a chartering desk with a pouf allow to share the time the unique experience of cruising with the captain. A sliding door behind the dinette provides a second access to the galley, which can also be reached from the lobby and through an outer door along the port walkway, allowing the crew to bypass the salon. The white lacquered kitchen, supplied by the Italian company Ernestomeda, is equipped with Bosch household appliances and a quartz top.
LOWER DECK
Access to the lower deck is gained from the lobby located in the central part of the yacht. Reaching the night area is easier and safer thanks to a special lighting system that not only is extremely functional, but also adds a special charming touch to the entire staircase and the passage room leading to the guest cabins: besides the illuminated column around which the stairs descend, a lateral backlit handrail is featured providing an elegant solution to access the lower deck in safety. Additional lights can also be installed upon request on all staircase and corridor steps taking to the VIP and guest cabins.
All cabins are considerably larger on this yacht, as all of them have been positioned towards the stern, thereby using the widest sections of the yacht - a solution that has had no impact on the engine room, the crew quarters and the garage with respect to the previous model, the Ferretti 830. There are three double cabins (the guest cabin to port has separable beds), plus a fourth twin cabin along the starboard bulwark. Each cabin is fitted with an ensuite head and a separate shower.
The full-beam master stateroom, arranged lengthwise, is incredibly bright thanks to the double windows with portholes and is stylishly furnished with a sofa running along the entire starboard glazing and completed by a sliding table. Below the opposite glazing is a functional cabinet with vanity set and built-in pouf. The master head is furnished with two ceramic washbasins with cascade mixer taps, resting on a marble top. All master and guest bathroom accessories are supplied by the Italian company Capannoli. The shower with marble walls and flooring is accessed through a glass door by Bianchi and Fontana, while the toilet area is separated by a satin glass sliding door. In order to perfectly harmonise the bathrooms with the yacht’s overall décor style, the Group’s architects and designers have decided to include some wood inserts in the heads too, wood being the undisputed key décor-element on this yacht: polished walnut root inserts can indeed be found under the marble tops and in the heads skirting boards. The position of the head and the walk-in wardrobe, behind the bed, considerably increases sound insulation, further enhanced by the soundproofing partition and the tanks, installed between the cabin and the engine room. Last, but not least, the crew quarters are located aft, after the engine room (to which the captain and the crew have direct access), ensuring even more comfort and privacy.
The guest cabins have been extensively redesigned and restyled, making an even better use of the available space and further extending the glazing, which ensures extraordinary brightness. The VIP cabin, located forward, has two windows with portholes. Under the starboard one stands a small armchair. Along the port bulwark is a cabinet with vanity set and a pouf. Incredible brightness and refined décor solutions characterise the guest cabins too, both featuring a window with two portholes. More specifically, the guest cabin on the port side is comparable to the VIP one in terms of both volumes and comfort: furnished with a double bed or two twin beds (both solutions ensure great habitability), this cabin also features a built-in vanity set in the TV column, which can host a TV screen up to 26".
PERFORMANCES
As regards performances, the Ferretti Yachts 870 is equipped with two MTU 12V 2000 M94 engines providing 2,450 mhp per engine, which allow the vessel to reach a cruising speed of 27 knots and a maximum speed of 30.5 knots. At this latter speed the yacht can boast a range of 300 nautical miles, a value that increases to 358 nautical miles at cruising speed. In the hard top version, the Ferretti Yachts 870 can reach a maximum speed of 30 knots, with a range of 300 nautical miles, and a cruising speed of 27 knots, with a range of 350 nautical miles.
